How do you apply for Social Security?
If you were born before 1938, you will be eligible to receive full retirement benefits at the age of 65. For people born in 1960 and later, full retirement age is 67. Many people are electing delayed retirement and can get increased benefits if they defer taking social security until age 70. You may retire as early as age 62, but your benefits will be permanently reduced based on the number of months you receive checks before you reach full retirement age.
